Joanna and Ruth
Songs that tell stories
Joanna and Ruth are a musical duo based in western Massachusetts who perform songs that tell stories, written by some of the greatest songwriters of all time — including Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Dave Carter & Tracy Grammar, and Gillian Welch. They knew quickly after singing their first songs together that they had found a special mix — with softer, lilting, vocals that blend seamlessly. Their voices are well-supported by the beautiful, warm tones of Joanna’s hollow-body electric guitar playing, and their sets are super infused with harmony. Audiences appreciate singing along to well-known songs like Rocketman and Slip, Sliding, Away, as well as sitting back to listen to jazz-inspired versions of Norah Jones’ Wintertime or Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr.’s God Bless the Child. Joanna enjoys playing guitar in a variety of styles and has studied with Andrew Lawrence. Ruth also sings with The Secret Chord, a Leonard Cohen tribute band, Little Wild Bouquet, and After The Rain. They perform regularly at a variety of indoor and outdoor venues throughout the valley and at special events.
